I walked into Day 1 of the WIMBIZ Conference full of curiosity.
I walked out with a notebook full of revelations.
This year hit differently — maybe because I’m clearer about the woman I’m becoming,
or maybe because the conversations were bolder, more urgent, more intentional.
Huge appreciation to Verraki for sponsoring this experience.
I don’t take it for granted.
Here are my most powerful lessons from Day 1 — told as I lived, heard, and internalised
them.

1. Opening Plenary — The Wealth Playbook: Women, Economic Power and
Sustainability
Panelists:
FFL, Sola Adesakin, Dr. Olaiten Martins, Natalie Beinisch, Richmond Bassey
This session set the tone for the entire conference.
“Look inward for patterns — borrow sense.”
That was the opening gut punch.
Many of us grew up in households where:

  • Women worked tirelessly but had nothing to show
  • Financial trauma became normal
  • Dependency was disguised as patience
  • Wealth was accidental, not intentional

Borrowing sense means studying the patterns around you and choosing differently.
For me, that line alone made the conference worth attending.

    2. Traits of Women Who Build Wealth Sustainably
Dr. Olaiten Martins reframed wealth beyond bank statements.

    She defined wealth as:

    •  Knowledge (what you know)
    •  Mindset (how you think)
    •  Time (how you use it)
    •  Network (who knows you and who you know)
    •  Courage (your willingness to stretch)

    Her message was clear:
    “A woman must be audacious.”
Not timid. Not muted. Not apologetic.
    Audacious.
She challenged us to stop thinking small and to stop shrinking ourselves into “safe
    zones.”
Growth is not safe — but it is necessary.

    3. Make. Manage. Multiply — The Money Mastery Framework
Sola Adesakin broke down financial literacy into 3 core skills:
✔ Make money — your skill, your value
✔ Manage money — budgeting, discipline & intentionality
✔ Multiply money — investing, compounding, courage
And then the line I will never forget:
    “Planning is better than packaging.”
In a world obsessed with optics, it was a needed reminder.

    4. Digital Tools Are the New Wealth Equalizer
FFL took us on a journey — from her grandmother’s business in Ondo to sitting in
    global boardrooms today.
    Her story emphasized that:

    •  Digital tools create visibility
    •  Phones now serve as POS terminals
    •  Audit trails build credibility
    •  Tech removes barriers for women
    •  Documentation is wealth safety

Her grandmother grew wealth but left no audit trail — a painful but brilliant lesson for
    today’s generation.

    5. The Circular Economy — Not Just Sustainability, But Strategy
Natalie Beinisch introduced the concept of circular economy:

    •  Resource efficiency
    •  Rethinking value creation
    •  Reducing waste
    •  Considering the full lifecycle of products

    But she was honest:
Circular economy is not (yet) the quickest path to profit in Nigeria.
What it does give women is:

    •  Opportunity to innovate
    •  Skills to design smarter products
    •  Thinking frameworks that create competitive advantage

This is a mindset women can transfer to any industry.

    6. The 5 P’s of Monetisation
A powerful framework for turning your life into value:

      1. Passion

      1. Past Experiences

      1. Proficiency

      1. Partnerships

      1. Potential
FFL also gave us the most honest reminder:
“Being broke is not shameful. Staying broke is.”

    7. Tax Reforms — What Women & SMEs Need to Know
The tax reform session was amazingly practical.
    Some key changes:

    •  Minimum wage earners pay zero tax from 2026
    •  Salaries ₦1.2M – ₦2M get PAYE reductions
    •  Small companies (≤ ₦100M turnover): 0% corporate income tax
    •  Food, education, health, rent, transportation are moving to zero-rated VAT
    •  Capital market investments: no tax
    •  State bonds: no tax

When you understand policy, you play differently.
This session empowered many women entrepreneurs to rethink their business structure
    and compliance.

    8. Dr. Arunma Oteh — A Masterclass in Leadership & Legacy
This keynote was a sermon, a leadership class, a life lecture, and a mindset reset.
    Her principles:

    •  God first
    •  Discipline
    •  Integrity
    •  Budgeting & planning
    •  A positive mindset
    •  Excellence
    •  Strong networks
    •  Risk-taking (do it afraid)
    •  Fail forward
    •  Pay it forward

She introduced the 4Cs of leadership:
    ✔ Character
    ✔ Compassion
    ✔ Competence
    ✔ Courage
This is what true elevation looks like.

    9. Leading with Equity — The NGX Fireside Chat
Teni Popoola, CEO of NGX, shared truths on women in boardrooms:

    •  Elevation must be intentional
    •  Visibility matters
    •  Women need sponsors, not just mentors
    •  Retirement should be purposeful
    •  Purpose is not a destination — it is a daily choice

The line that stayed with me:
“Purpose is not what you retire with. It is what you live for.”

    My Reflection from Day 1
Day 1 shifted something in me.
It reminded me that empowerment is not external — it is internal.
    The most powerful lessons:

    •  Borrow sense
    •  Own your story
    •  Walk in power
    •  Build literacy
    •  Build networks
    •  Build courage
    •  Build legacy
    •  Build intentionally

I am becoming a more grounded, more intentional, more courageous version of myself.
Tomorrow, I’ll share Day 2: The Whole Woman Wellness Sessions — and trust me,
    Day 2 was transformational.
    Stay with me.
