Recently, I had the incredible privilege of visiting the Lagos State Children Correctional Center for Girls in Idi-Araba, Lagos, for the second time. This visit was particularly close to my heart as it marked a continuation of an inspiring initiative started by a group of compassionate sisters who identified the need for empowering the girls with essential computer skills. Together, we embarked on a mission to bring technology and education into their lives, opening new doors for their future.

The journey began when this group of volunteers generously donated computers to the correctional center. They recognized that these young girls, despite their circumstances, deserved an opportunity to develop skills that could empower them for life. I was honored to volunteer my time and expertise, teaching them the basics of computing—starting with how to use a computer, how to navigate software, and helping them understand the vast possibilities that technology offers.
On my second visit, we took the next step: testing their typing skills. It was an exciting moment for everyone involved. The girls were thrilled to see their progress, competing with themselves and setting targets to improve their typing speed. Their excitement and eagerness to learn were contagious, reminding me once again why it’s so important to create opportunities like this for young people, especially those in challenging circumstances.
But our efforts didn’t stop there. In response to their enthusiasm, I have built an e-learning platform where all the girls will soon be enrolled—completely free of charge. Each girl will have the chance to explore and learn about a range of courses, from basic computer skills to more advanced topics like web development, design, and coding, based on their individual interests. This platform is designed to give them access to the knowledge and skills that will set them up for success in today’s digital world.

I am beyond grateful to be part of this journey, knowing that we are helping to equip these young minds with tools that will empower them for a brighter future. The excitement on their faces, their dedication, and their desire to learn are constant reminders that when given the right resources and guidance, every child has the potential to thrive.
This is just the beginning. The plan is to keep building on this initiative, ensuring that the girls at the correctional center have continuous access to education and opportunities that will help them grow and succeed. I look forward to seeing what they will achieve as they embark on this transformative learning journey, and I am deeply committed to making sure that they receive the support they need every step of the way.

This experience has reaffirmed my belief in the power of education and technology to change lives. I am excited to continue adding value and making a meaningful impact in the lives of these incredible girls, helping them to unlock their full potential and become the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow.
