Over my 15-year career in the tech industry, I’ve seen countless individuals ignite that spark and embark on their own unique paths. Once upon a time, I was a wide-eyed tech enthusiast just like many of you. My journey began with a fascination for the inner workings of computers, the allure of coding, and the dreams of creating something meaningful. I remember my first lines of code – they weren’t elegant, but they held the promise of what could be.

The Importance of Purpose:

As the years rolled by, I learned that purpose is the compass that guides us through the ever-changing tech landscape. It’s the North Star that helps us navigate the choices, setbacks, and triumphs. When I discovered my purpose in tech – to leverage technology for positive change – everything fell into place. I knew why I was coding, learning, and innovating.

Tech as a Force for Good:

One of the most inspiring aspects of the tech world is its potential for positive change. It’s not just about lines of code; it’s about how those lines can transform lives and entire industries. I’ve witnessed tech innovations that have improved healthcare, fintech, seamless management of students and teachers, empowered communities, and addressed environmental challenges and so much more. These stories reaffirm my belief in the profound impact tech can have on the world.

Overcoming Challenges:

Like many of you, I’ve faced my share of challenges – moments of self-doubt, the pressure to keep up with rapidly evolving tech, and the occasional project that seemed insurmountable. But with each challenge, I learned and grew stronger. It’s through overcoming these obstacles that we truly become tech leaders.

Continuous Learning and Adaptation:

In tech, learning is a lifelong journey. I’ve embraced this truth by dedicating time to staying updated on industry trends, exploring new technologies, and seeking opportunities for growth. It’s a journey that keeps the tech world endlessly exciting and filled with possibilities. I am also a beneficiary of the scholarship to learn with I4G – NoCode with Paul. I am currently learning this and I also active with my second masters program in Information Technology. So you see, learning is always continuous.

Inspiration from Tech Innovators:

Throughout my career, I’ve drawn inspiration from tech innovators who dared to dream big and push boundaries. Their stories of resilience and creativity remind me that there are no limits to what we can achieve in the tech world.

Mentorship and Community:

Throughout my 15-year journey in the tech world, I’ve had the privilege of learning from mentors who guided me from both near and far. Some were industry giants, while others were close colleagues and friends. The beauty of mentorship is that it transcends distance and formal titles.

Early in my career, I was fortunate to have bosses who believed in the power of hands-on learning. They didn’t just teach; they handed me sample code and encouraged me to embark on a journey of exploration and creation. It was through this process that I took my first significant step in software development.

My maiden project was a school portal, a complex undertaking for someone just starting in the field. It featured student registration, the ability to perform CRUD operations on student records, manage classes, handle subjects, generate report cards, and facilitate the promotion of students from one class to another. I still remember the initial challenges I faced when I began coding for this project.

However, it was precisely these challenges that fueled my determination to learn and grow. With each line of code I wrote, I gained not only technical proficiency but also a deeper understanding of how software could transform processes and systems. This project marked the beginning of my journey as a developer and set the stage for the countless projects that followed.

Mentorship, whether from experienced professionals or through hands-on projects like mine, plays a pivotal role in shaping one’s tech journey. It provides the guidance, insights, and practical experience needed to navigate the complex world of technology.
